Look at the pretty flowers!

Flowers My sweet Charles sent them to me at work in early celebration of Valentine's Day.

Update two days later: they are still looking beautiful!

It Could Happen to You

I've been watching It Could Happen to You on tv this afternoon. I'd never seen it but always thought the premise was very sweet. (A police officer shares his lottery ticket winnings with a waitress that he'd promised earlier he'd share it with in lieu of a tip.) A few thoughts:

1) I'd like to think that winning the lottery would make me a more generous person (like the police officer who won) and not more greedy like his wife.
2) My generous husband Charles would have done the same thing as the police officer.
3) It really won't ever happen to either Charles or me though, since we've never bought a lottery ticket and probably never will!

The advantages of blogging

One of the advantages of blogging is that you can go back and re-read posts and remember things that you did that you've already forgotten about!

For example, tonight I spent a few minutes going back through some of my old entries, I came across the one describing last year's Valentine's Day. I'd forgotten how special it was for Charles and me.

This motivates me to blog often, because it may come in handy if I ever have to recall an event.

Charles toured the CSpan bus after voting

Charles_cspan_3 The C-Span bus with a couple of C-Span workers was at our polling place today, and after Charles voted he introduced himself and ended up getting a tour of the bus! In the photo at the left, Charles is sitting in the same spot where they interviewed Rudy Giuliani.

Charles ended up getting us both C-Span t-shirts and a pocket copy of the Constitution of the United States.

If you'd like to learn more about the C-Span bus, you can go to their website: http://www.c-span.org/schoolbus

I hope it's cold tomorrow.

Scarf I finished knitting my first scarf and want to wear it to work!

A lovely wedding

My second cousin got married this weekend, and the wedding was absolutely beautiful! You could feel Christ's presence immensely throughout the service. It reminded me a lot of my nephew's wedding last summer. All the preludes and processionals were beautiful hymns: "Praise Ye The Lord", "All Creatures of our God and King", "Holy, Holy, Holy" (my all-time favorite hymn!), "The Church's One Foundation", "A Mighty Fortress." The organ, brass and strings combination was majestic. One of the singers sang "He's Always Been Faithful" which was a medley containing "Great is Thy Faithfulness" (another of my faves!). Although I love classical, sacred music at weddings too, the hymns are just so meaningful.

The sermon was inspiring too: the minister stressed that marriage is 1 + 1 = 1. And, on top of that, we should be one in Christ. He also reminded us that marriage is ordained by God to glorify Him. All this is common knowledge, but still good stuff.

The reading was the same scripture that we chose for our wedding: Colossians 3:12-17. The best verse from that passage is verse 14: "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

With a ceremony that powerful, my cousin and his new wife are definitely starting out their new life together on a firm foundation!
