As Good as It Gets is one of my favorite movies. I just watched the last 20 minutes or so and caught a good one-liner: "I'm drowning, and you're describing the water." Melvin says this to Simon when tormented about whether or not to risk it all and pay a late-night visit to Carol to declare his love for her.
That's a good line!
I wanted Tia to win the spelling bee so badly! She is so cute and perky! I almost teared up myself watching her miss "opificer". I would have probably spelled it like she did, with a leading "e" instead of the "o".
We didn't even turn it on until about 9:15 and as such missed a lot of the drama. I'd heard that Sameer, the winner, was amusing throughout the day. What was the funniest part to me is all the questions that all the contestants ask! "Are you sure there are no other pronunciations?" "What is the etymology one more time?" "Am I pronouncing it correctly?"
Who would have thought that spelling bees could have so much allure?
Proverbs makes me want to act less foolishly, be more honest, kinder & wiser... and refrain from being a quarrelsome wife! Proverbs says at least a couple of times that it is better for a man to live on the corner of a roof than with a quarrelsome wife!
There are so many beautiful Proverbs:
- Truthful lips endure forever.
- A soft answer turns away wrath.
- A happy heart makes the face cheerful.
- How good is a timely reply!
- Commit to the Lord whatever you do.
- A wise man's heart guides his mouth.
There's a nice prayer in Proverbs chapter 30. I'd heard it before but never realized it was from that particular book: "Two things I ask of you Lord: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches but give me only my daily bread..." It goes on for another verse or two and really is a meaningful little prayer, much like the now famous prayer of Jabez.
I had the most interesting and delicious appetizer last night at a party: Southern sushi, and it's my kind of recipe with only three ingredients! Basically, you take a slice of sandwich ham (like Plumrose), spread cream cheese on it and then place two trimmed pickled okras at one end and roll up like sushi. Then, you cut it into sushi-sized slices. Hmm... I wonder where you can get pickled okra? Anyway, the next time I throw a party, my guests will be eating Southern sushi!
