Fun at our first minor league game

Looie_and_charles_2 The highlight of our weekend in Chattanooga was a minor league game between the Lookouts and the Mississippi Braves. Since we've been to several Braves games, I thought I'd list the pros and cons of going to a minor league game below:

Pros of a minor league vs a major league game:
1) Tickets much cheaper!
2) Food much cheaper!
3) Between-the-Innings entertainment is much more alive: moo contest, roll-the-hamburger contest, chicken dance, frozen tee-shirt contest, tennis ball toss
4) The umpires can really hear the fan response. At our game, the fans called the umpires "Blue". We heard this a lot: "Blue, I've seen a potato with better eyes than you!" It was really funny!
5) Traffic. What traffic?

Cons:
1) Hmmm... I'm still trying to think.

Help for bee stings

The following information is on the email circuit... If it's true, it is amazing!

"It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working in the yard.......... BEE STINGS !

A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden.

My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was Infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - ' The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes'.

That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite. We decided that she just wasn't allergic to the sting.

Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic.

I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately.

In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb. Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had stung me. No redness, no swelling.
My friend's sting was the same; couldn't even tell where she had been stung.

She got stung again a few days later upon her back---cutting the grass! And the penny worked once again.

Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand .

The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. It definitely works!"

How to De-stress after work

My de-stress trick after a confusing day at work is to watch an episode of "America's Funniest Home Videos" followed by an episode of "Funniest Pets and People." Works every time!

Psalms

The Psalms are emotional! All the top emotions are covered: joy, sadness, sorrow, hope, and fear. But  through every emotion, one theme prevails: "Give thanks to the Lord for He endures; His love endures forever!"

I had forgotten how much of the Book of Common Prayer was based on scripture, especially Psalms. "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be always acceptable in thy sight O Lord, my strength and my redeemer." (from Psalm 19)

Lots of praise music too is straight out of Psalms:
You are My hiding Place - Psalm 32:7
Create in me a Clean Heart - Psalm 51
As the Deer Panteth for the Water - Psalm 42
Glorify Thy Name - Psalm 86
and one of my faves:
Be Exalted, O God, above the Heavens" - Psalm 57 - except it is a hard one to sing!

Does anyone know of other songs that come straight out of Scripture? I'm building an iTunes playlist of Scripture songs.

It's true!

I'd heard good things about Trader Joe's "Two buck Chuck" wines. They are officially known as "Charles Shaw Blend" wines and cost $2.99, which I guess makes them Three buck Chucks. Even so, what a deal!

Last week I saw some at Kroger and adventurously picked up a couple of bottles of the Shiraz. Wow! It tastes very smooth. Highly recommended from the queen of "wines under 5 dollars".

Smells and feels good!

Have you tried the "go fresh" body washes by Dove? I bought a bottle of the "Grapefruit and Lemongrass" for my sister recently, but she had plenty so I kept it for myself. The grapefruit and lemongrass smells fabulous; the wash is very creamy going on and makes my skin feel soft even after the shower.

After at least 25 years of using Ivory, I may just be a convert to Dove body washes. Next time, I'm trying the "Cucumber and Green Tea".

If I had a flower garden...

I would plant peonies for Aunt Nena, roses for Aunt Ora, tulips and daffodils for Mama, lilacs for Aunt Mary and crepe myrtle for Aunt Emma.
