Tastes like grape juice

The Wall Street Journal Report is interspersed with personal interest stories amongst all the news and analysis. Last week, the reporter interviewed a wine expert who was lauding the taste of Pinot Noir and how light and fresh it tastes. Having drunk Cabernet Sauvignon almost exclusively the past 20 years, I was a little sceptical. However, a couple of nights ago, Charles and I were having supper at Outback and I had the whim of ordering a Pinot Noir. "Little Penguin" was the brand. Yum! It tastes just like grape juice; in fact, Charles had a sip, and he doesn't drink wine, but even he thought it tasted decent. I can't believe I've been subsisting on Cab Sauvignon with little interest in any other wine out there. By comparison, Cabs taste so bitter and strong. This particular Pinot Noir was so yummy. I plan to finish up my last two bottles of Black Swan Cabernet Sauvignon and switch permanently to Pinot Noir! I just wonder what else is out there that I've been denying myself all these years??

No wonder America is obese

Having 2.5 hours to kill while my sister was at calligraphy class, I decided to grab a bite to eat at the Whole Foods around the corner. Overwhelmed at the selection, I settled on a good ol' turkey sandwich. When the lady started piling meat on the bread, I asked her if she'd take some of the meat off, and it took 2 times asking her to pare the meat down to the right amount. The attendant said that a third of a pound of meat goes on each sandwich. My goodness! The madness didn't stop there. She put two slices of Swiss cheese on the sandwich. Wow! One slice is plenty, so the lady put one back. Now, for the kicker: I asked for lettuce on the sandwich and was given one measly piece of lettuce! Amazing! I asked for another piece and got it, and the lady told me there would be no extra charge! Hmm, no wonder America is obese, with portions like this. Next week, I'm going to Subway.
