Peachtree Road Race countdown
5 weeks to the day of the July 4 Peachtree Road Race. Hmm... I hope to break 48 minutes again this year and at this point it's looking pretty positive.

I actually completed the half marathon this morning in pretty good time considering that my knees and shins were not in the best shape. My time was right around 1 hour 47 minutes. The last half was grueling, but thank goodness I had good music to listen to, the sun was not beating down, and there were plenty of water stops! i would not have made it without the water and Powerade. My chip fell off at mile 12 and I had to run back to retrieve it! I nearly fell over when I stood back up to run! When I crossed the finish line, I managed to smile really big at the camera, wave at the crowd, and Charles was rooting for me too at the finish line. Talk about "Fake it to make it!" That's what I did today. My race-day manager and precious husband Charles really made a difference. Had it not been for his enthusiasm, the ING Half Marathon would have been an ordeal (well at least the last few miles) instead of a big deal!
Two weeks from the half marathon. I figured this morning it would be a good idea to do a long run, so I ran 1 hour 20 minutes. It was actually quite easy considering that I haven't run more than a 10K in over a year. At my normal jogging pace, I calculate that I ran at least 10 miles today! Yippee! Next week, I'll add a mile or two... and then it's the ING Half-marathon, here I come.
Charles gave me a $50 iTunes gift card for Christmas, and this weekend, I'll probably go crazy buying songs that I can run to. If you have any suggestions for good running music, please make a suggestion in the Comments below. Bear in mind that I'm 44 years old, and I like music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. I don't even think I can name a song that came out in the 90s except for Country music, which I do like, especially Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney and Brooks & Dunn. Anyway, to be a good running song, it has to be peppy, or if not peppy, then very inspiring and uplifting.
After huffing and puffing today during a 5-mile run, I decided that the only thing at this point to salvage my running is to do the ING Half Marathon in March. It'll give me a reason to run during the winter months as well as some motivation to do a long run each week. It starts at Underground Atlanta on Sunday March 25 at 7:00 AM. I wonder if I can do it in 1 hour 45 minutes like I used to???
